"The team is happier"
Sergio Ramos talked about how he sees Real Madrid prior to Saturday's clash against his former rival, Betis
Sergio Ramos knows Real Madrid have to improve, but he also he knows it's early in the season and that "things take time." The most important thing for the Sevillian player is that the team is having fun playing football, which will translate into satisfying the Madridista 'aficionados'. He hasn't forgotten about the Betis rivalry he experienced with his Sevilla past, but Ramos said that the most important thing on Saturday is winning the three points.
How do you see the team after having played three League matches? I see the team is getting tighter in every game, and we are having fun playing football. Progress takes time. We know that we'll improve considerably with time.
You face Betis on Saturday. Will it be a special match? It is clearly different for me because I have faced them many times. They were my main rival when I played for Sevilla. Nevertheless, the most important thing is to earn the three points. We have to win.
Do you think the Ruíz de Lopera crowd will whistle at you? I feel well when I go back to Seville because my friends and family are there. I am excited and want to earn the three points.
Do you still see Betis as your main rival team? Those are things we keep to ourselves because we are professionals. I changed clubs over a year ago and I am very proud of being a part of this team. They are the main rival because we face them on Saturday, nothing more.
Did you expect the team to be playing better at this stage? I think things are going as planned. Players end up very tired at the end of the season. I think the team is working better each day, and we need a little time to make Madridistas proud.
Has the arrival of Emerson and Diarra made the defence feel more secure? Maybe a little. They obviously tighten up the lines, aiding us considerably in the defence. Last year there were a lot of gaps, and we really didn't have a good time defending. The new signings are helping and making things easier for us.
Despite having Emerson and Diarra in the midfield, Olympique Lyonnais had the same, or even more, goal scoring chances as last year. We have to let go of that match. We know the mistakes we made, so we have to move on and improve so that they don't happen again.
Cannavaro didn't play very well in Lyon. Cannavaro is a great player, a true veteran that has a lot of experience. It is a privilege for me to play and learn from him. We all have good and bad matches. We will soon form a solid partnership.
Capello seems to be keeping an eye on players' weight. How is Ronaldo coping with this? Everyone has a specific protocol. Each of us knows what we have to weigh and how to maintain it to play our best.
Valencia coach Quique Sánchez Flores said that no one on this Real Madrid takes the fall when the team goes through a rough patch. Each coach has a different opinion and I respect that. This is a united team and we all help move forward. No one has to take the fall. We are winning, but we still need to make daily improvements.
Raúl is still going through a scoring drought. I have total faith in the captain. We all know he's a great goal scorer because he has scored many goals in the past. We all have faith in him and we're sure he will do a lot for the team. He will start scoring in no time.
You must be happy with Reyes' arrival. Of course I am, espeically because of what he can do for the team. He's a quality player that will help a lot now that we're going back to wing-play. We're still as good of friends as we were when he left Sevilla for London. He is very happy. We all are.
The fans are restless and a lot of whistling was heard at the Bernabéu last weekend. I think it is too early to be so demanding. We have many new players. We'll improve little by little. Nevertheless, I still feel the fans support us every time I step onto the pitch at the Bernabéu.
